EMPEROR ROSKO: Radio legend, hits Wrexham

Posted: March 18th, 2009.

In the Annals of entertainment history, there have been many Dukes (Ellington/John Wayne), Princes (Prince/Prince Naseem), Queens (Freddie Mercury/Queen Latifah), Kings (Elvis/King) but only EVER one Emperor.

Emperor Rosko, the man who ‘made your back crack’ and your ‘liver quiver’ remains a legendary radio dj. Joining Radio Caroline in 1964, he became a regular voice on a range of cutting edge 60’s radio stations, Luxembourg included. So brilliant was he that Rosko was headhunted for the new Radio 1 when it opened in 1967. Conventional Britain had heard nothing like it . On his first show Rosko uttered the immortal line “I am the Emperor, the geeter with the heater, your leader, your groovy host from the West coast, here to clear up your skin and mess up your mind”

Rosko remains in 2009 as popular as ever. Known in Spain and South America as El Presidente, in France as Le President, and in Germany as the Kaiser, Rosko’s global audience has grown in size and affection.

On Friday April 3rd and Saturday April 4th, Flexys Club Monsanto plays host to the great one. Brought to the club by empresario Pete Madsen, Rosko is fronting two great shows of soul and nostalgia featuring Mamma’s Boys (Friday) and Ricky Vaughan (Saturday).

Soul buffs put Emperor Rosko amongst the Hall of Soul giants being one of the few djs ever to have a major record company (WEA) release a Soul compilation complete with Rosko’s immortal links.

For a great weekend of Rosko, Soul and nostalgia classics, book early to avoid disappointment.
