Network proudly announces the release of SPITTING IMAGE THE COMPLETE FIFTH SERIES DVD (12) on 23rd March 2009, RRP £14.99. This is the first time the series is available in any format.
Broadcast on ITV in 1988, no target was safe as the show lifted satire to a whole new level for over a decade. Highlights include Jeffrey Archer appearing on Mastermind, Neil Kinnock being sent on a Mission Impossible, Prince Edwards attempts at guiding the years Royal Variety Show and Pavarotti giving a star turn at The Last Night of the Yobs.
Voice artists include Chris Barrie, Steve Coogan, Jon Glover, Steve Nallon, Enn Reitel, Kate Robbins and Jessica Martin.
BAFTA-nominated many times, Spitting Image won a Bronze medal at the Montreux TV festival in 1984, establishing its success and ultimately running for 18 series in total.

- Episode One: While a cherubic urchin gets an unfortunate visitation from the Tooth Fairy, the BBC News gets a revamp with Marcel Marceau reporting live from Northern Ireland. A bunch of Professional Cockneys show off their new long-playing record and Jeffrey Archer appears on Mastermind – his special subject: Jeffrey Archer.
- Episode Two: Points of View is taken to task for a continuity error made during the transmission of some hard core porn, Neil Kinnock takes on a true Mission Impossible – turning the Labour Party into an electable force by 1992 – and Bros are shocked to find that they’ve just gone out of fashion.
- Episode Three: Thatcher confesses her true feelings to Reagan, while yet another Telethon tries its best but fails miserably. Alan Bennett tries his best to get Richard Attenborough interested in his new play about an old lady from Huddersfield who can’t open a packet of biscuits. Dickie’s not sold.
- Episode Four: In an attempt to capture the Green Vote the entire cabinet has grown beards, including Thatcher. Sycophancy runs riot during the Royal Variety Show which, this year, celebrates “Prince Edward – One Year in Showbusiness”. Donald Sinden personally introduces its highlight – Ben Elton taking a brisk trot through history as The Fool.
- Episode Five: Jimmy Greaves’ concerns about hooliganism at Wimbledon are laid to rest while Esther has a bit of a shock when she meets a dog that refuses to say ‘sausages’. While the truth about Kennedy’s assassination still refuses to come out, Pavarotti gives a star turn at The Last Night of the Yobs.
- Episode Six: The government try to reassure the people that the vast amount of statements made by Edwina Currie are harmless. Kilroy investigates the future of broadcasting and John Mortimer fights the cause for quality television. Kinnock and chums give a radio performance of “Under Milk Snatcher”, a play for voices very definitely not written by Dylan Thomas.
