DONNIE YEN AND KELLY CHEN STAR IN THE LATEST HISTORICAL EPIC FROM THE VETERAN DIRECTOR OF THE “SWORDSMAN” TRILOGY.

Veteran Hong Kong director Tony Siu-Tung Ching (director of A Chinese Ghost Story and the “Swordsman” trilogy and the action choreographer for “Curse Of The Golden Flower”, “Hero” and “House Of Flying Daggers”) returns to vintage form with the epic, AN EMPRESS AND THE WARRIORS, starring Donnie Yen (Flashpoint; Dragon Tiger Gate; Seven Swords; Hero), Kelly Chen (the Infernal Affairs trilogy; Tokyo Raiders) and Leon Lai (Seven Swords). The film is due for DVD & blu-ray releasd in UK by Cine Asia on 23 March.

Set during China’s Warring States period, Yan Feier (Kelly Chen), the daughter and only heir of the ruler of the Kingdom of Yan, who reluctantly inherits the throne following her father’s untimely death. With the kingdom currently at war, she’s ill-prepared to lead her people and turns for assistance to her childhood friend and her father’s most trusted general, Muyong (Donnie Yen). Meanwhile, incensed that he has been overlooked by his former king, Feier’s envious cousin, Wu Ba (Guo Xiaodong), plots to kill her and take the throne for himself even if it means initiating a civil war between his troops and those loyal to the empress.

When Feier is attacked and poisoned during a failed assassination attempt on her life, she is rescued and nursed back to health by a forest hermit, Duan Lanquan (Leon Lai), and the two soon fall in love. But with her kingdom in crisis, Feier is forced to return to fight her enemies.

Boasting epic battle sequences worthy of the legendary Japanese director, Akira Kurosawa (Ran; Kagemusha), and action set-pieces that recall the best of the Shaw Brothers output, this is a sumptuously envisioned period action movie with a romantic core.

Special Features include: Making Of featurette; Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 Stereo audio options; theatrical trailer.
