Widely held to be one of the greatest rock bands ever, The Who were formed in 1964 by vocalist Roger Daltrey, guitarist Pete Townshend, bassist John Entwistle and drummer Keith Moon. Rising to fame with a series of top ten singles, The Who cemented their reputation with acclaimed rock opera Tommy and mighty live performances. From their role as mod icons to their guitar smashing live sets to the antics of rock n roll wild man Moon, The Who are one of rocks most colourful acts.
For over 30 years, Dublin-born Bono has been front man for legendary Irish rockers U2, one of the most critically and commercially successful bands in rock history. Since their formation in 1976, Bono and U2 have sold more than 150 million records, with 1987 album The Joshua Tree elevating the band to megastar status while 1991s Achtung Baby signaled their musical reinvention. Bono is also well known for his humanitarian work, with U2 playing a prominent role in both Band Aid and Live Aid.
One of best known of the bands to emerge from the Britpop scene, Oasis was formed by Noel and Liam Gallagher in Manchester in 1991. Notorious for their hedonistic lifestyle, public rows with Britpop rivals Blur and the Gallagher brothers frequently tempestuous relationship, Oasis also won millions of fans with modern classics such as Dont Look Back In Anger, Roll With It and Wonderwall at once point racking up an incredible 22 successive top ten hits in the UK charts.
