UNIVERSAL PICTURES INTERNATIONAL ENTERTAINMENT RELEASES GLADIATOR ON BLU-RAY FOR THE FIRST TIME
A 2-Disc High Definition Edition of Ridley Scotts Academy Award® winning masterpiece to be released internationally with over 4 hours of all new content
Universal Pictures International Entertainment (UPIE), the international home entertainment distribution division of Universal Pictures, is proud to announce that epic adventure Gladiator, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Russell Crowe, will make its Blu-ray debut on Monday 7th September in the UK and Republic of Ireland
Ian Foster, Managing Director of Universal Pictures UK said, We are very pleased to be releasing Gladiator on Blu-ray in the United Kingdom this year. The high-definition viewing experience and hours of extra content showcase the incredible capabilities of Blu-ray. Gladiator is the film that Blu-ray was made for and this release supports our strategy to increase the number of Blu-ray households during our busiest trading period of the year.
This format defining release will be presented on two BD 50 dual-layer discs and will include 11 hours of extra content. The first disc will include both the theatrical and extended version of the film, audio commentary, deleted scenes and the Vision of Elysium: Topic Portal a new U-Control feature that will allow viewers to tag moments of interest throughout the film and create a shopping list of topics to learn about in the supplements on disc two. The second disc also includes Strength and Honour: Creating the World of Gladiator, the definitive documentary on the origin, product and impact of the film.
Gladiator picked up 5 Academy Awards® and tells the story of Maximus Decimus (played by Crowe) a Roman general who is betrayed by the corrupt prince Commodus. Captured and enslaved along the outer fringes of the Roman Empire, Maximus rises through the ranks of the gladatorial arena to avenge the murders of his family and his emperor. The Universal / Dreamworks co-production captured peoples hearts when released in May 2000 and grossed a massive $457,640,427 at the box office. It is also one of Universals best selling DVDs of all time, selling over 5,372,000 million units worldwide since 2004.
