Speed Kingsis a moto-racing arcade game that sees you riding along several differenttracks in a single-player mode or testing your agility by taking drivinglessons to get your licence, giving you the chance to try out jumps, wheelies, dings (clips cars as you drive past them) and powerdowns (slide under jacknifedtrucks in a cool style).
There’s also additional jump and wheelie challenges to bringyou extra points and you can get a powerband (turbo boost) by performingdangerous tricks (we’ve been here before with reckless driving in theBurnoutgames)
Sadly, it’s difficult to get enthusiastic about this title once you beginplaying it. The graphics are quite pedestrian. They’re reasonably colourful, but it’s nothing you wouldn’t have expected of the PS2 on launch day. There’salso a distinct lack of actual speed here!
When it comes to sound, driving and racing games are rarely ones to excel inthis capacity and this one doesn’t alter that perception.
One thing different here is that there are other cars on track but this canhinder the entertainment as you keep crashing into them.
Basically, this has all been done before. It looks very similar to the excellentExtreme G3but is nowhere near as fast or furious and absolutely pales in comparison tothe classy Xbox titleMoto GP 2.
Overall, this is a fun racer for about an hour and any crashes have no impactwhatsoever in terms of excitement. Stick with theBurnoutseries instead.
