The Four Seasons opens with Kate (Tina Fey) and Jack (Will Forte) swearing. Ooh, edgy… not.
They’re joined by two other couples – Anne (Kerri Kenney) & Nick (Steve Carell), and Claude (Marco Calvani) & Danny (Colman Domingo) – all going away on holiday together, once per season.
After they get together for an initial big meal, Nick reveals to the others that he’s thinking about separating from Anne, but since everyone lives in big houses, this is “rich people’s problems”, same as Apple TV’s Your Friends And Neighbors.
If you have a good memory, it’s based on the 1981 film of the same name which was written by Alan Alda, starred Alan Alda and was directed by Alan Alda. Here, he’s also one of the many producers, but in both cases, he probably also made the tea.
Beyond that, amongst any relationship issues that I don’t care about, but won’t spoil, I found this beyond tedious. It’s telling that aside from everyone screams a lot, the cast are laughing a lot more than I am. In fact, I didn’t laugh once.
Thanks to our friends at Netflix for the screener prior to release.
The Four Seasons is not available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but is on Netflix from today.
