The Hollars is a family-based comedy (now don’t run off, as this one actually looks pretty decent) about aspiring NYC artist John Hollar (John Krasinski) who returns to his middle America hometown on the eve of his mother’s brain surgery.
Joined by his girlfriend, eight months pregnant with their first child, John is forced to navigate the crazy world he left behind as his dysfunctional family, high school pals, and over-eager ex flood back into his life ahead of his mother’s operation.
Directed by Krasinski from a script by James C Strouse (New York, I Love You), the film has a well-known cast including Sharlto Copley (District 9), Charlie Day (Horrible Bosses), Richard Jenkins (Cabin in the Woods), Anna Kendrick, Mary Elizabeth Winstead (A Good Day To Die Hard, 10 Cloverfield Lane), Mary Kay Place, Randall Park (The Interview) and Josh Groban – yes, the singer.
And… it actually looks very funny indeed, seriously, so don’t run to the hills at that revelation, so I do want to check this out.
The Hollars is released on August 26th in the USA, but as of yet there’s no UK date.
