Pick of the week: ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK
MGM will release ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK: SPECIAL EDITION and TO LIVE ANDDIE IN LA on December 16. ESCAPE is known to have 2 discs of content andof course an anamorphic 2.35:1 widescreen transfer. Not much else isknown on the latter but you can at least expect a wealth of content anda widescreen transfer.
ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK has been in need of a better DVDrepresentative for a while and TO LIVE AND DIE IN LA is great as well.
COLUMBIA TRISTAR
EIGHT CRAZY NIGHTS will street on November 4. The two-disc set(WHAT?!?!) will include anamorphic widescreen (1.85:1) and fullscreentransfers. A wealth of extras will also be present on the disc.
- Excitement Factor: 0 out of 10. To some extent you can usually find anenjoyable factor in a lame cartoon but nope, not one iota. A verydisappointing Adam Sandler entry.
NEW LINE CINEMA
DUMB AND DUMBERER: WHEN HARRY MET LLOYD will street on November 11. Thedisc will actually be billed as a Platinum Title (nice to see New Linebring that back at any rate) and will include an anamorphic widescreentransfer (1.85:1). Extras include cast and crew commentary, featurettes,deleted scenes, and trailers.
- Excitement Factor: 5 out of 10. Not as bad as one might think but notmuch better… I don’t think Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels could have evensaved this trainwreck.
HOW TO DEAL will street on December 9. The disc is a Platinum Title andwill include among other extras an anamorphic widescreen (1.85:1)transfer.
- Excitement Factor: 0 out of 10. I’ll skip on this sappy soap opera madefor a teen generation that hates these movies…and deservedly so.
PARAMOUNT
LARA CROFT: TOMB RAIDER-THE CRADLE OF LIFE will street on November 18in seperate anamorphic widescreen (2.40:1) and fullscreen transfers.Extras TBA.
- Excitement Factor: 4 out of 10. I avoided this because the first one wasjust…on second thought don’t get me started.
RUGRATS GO WILD will street on December 9 in seperate anamorphicwidescreen (2.40:1) and fullscreen transfers. Extras TBA.
- Excitement Factor: 0 out of 10. Back away…slowly.

Take these with a grain of salt since they’re only tales and stories.
- PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL is rumored tostreet on December 2. Expect an announcement soon.
- BAD BOYS II is rumored to street on December 16.
- LXG (aka The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) is rumored to street on December 16.
- FREAKY FRIDAY is rumored to street on December 16.
- AMERICAN WEDDING (aka American Pie: The Wedding) is rumored to street on December 30.
- ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO is rumored to street on January 13.
- UNDERWORLD is already rumored to street on January 27.
