Twinkleby on PC / Steam – The DVDfever Review

Twinkleby Twinkleby is out now, and gives you the chance to furnish a house on a floating island, in the growing genre that is ‘cozy gaming’.

As you’ll see from the video, below, I didn’t get things right at first, since I realised I’d placed my house back-to-front, so when Georgiana sails in, she couldn’t enter! However, I did think she’d just walk straight in through the ‘open-plan’ set-up, but I was wrong.

Hence, I started up again, and she did enter, but in a bid to try and direct her around the house, and hopefully get her to sit on the far side of the table so she faced me, I’d occasionally take things away, such as with the bookcase once she goes to read something from it, to force her back to the table.

One thing you can do in the game, which might seem a bit extreme, is to dispose of household items by simply throwing them off the island! This can even include the house! However, when I did this a few minutes into the game, I was asked, “Do you really want to evict Georgiana?”

Erm… nope!

I did feel a bit “EEK!” with the thought I might kill someone who’s just walked in, so Twinkleby does take us back to the days of Little Computer People in the ’80s, as they’d wander about a house, albeit in 2D fashion.

Clearly, she didn’t take that potential to heart, though, as she ultimately rewarded me with a map fragment, and there’s more rewards for others who go the full route.

Overall, Twinkleby isn’t really my sort of thing, but while I enjoy some ‘cozy’ games, I’m not into world-building games. However, I know there’s a huge market for it, so this will no doubt do very well.
