10 Cloverfield Lane is the latest producer project for JJ Abrams, fresh from making an okay Star Wars sequel, and this new movie is also long-awaited but for me, the original Cloverfield was a handheld-horror movie which felt very much like The Emperor’s New Clothes. Is said Emperor now donning a new set?
This first trailer is more like a teaser as it features a family, including Mary Elizabeth Winstead (only appearing in the censored cinema version of A Good Day To Die Hard) and Inside Llewyn Davis’ John Goodman getting on with things to a cover of “I Think We’re Alone Now” until… something starts shaking.
But Abrams isn’t going to give us any more than that for the first trailer when he can eek it out with at least a second one.
Directed by Dan Trachtenberg and with a screenplay by Josh Campbell, Matt Stuecken and Whiplash writer/director Damien Chazelle, who is also making the forthcoming La La Land due for released in the UK on July 15th, starring Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling and again working with JK Simmons (Fletcher in Whiplash), I’m not holding out an awful lot of hope for this new overhyped movie.
10 Cloverfield Lane has a release date of March 11th according to the trailer, but that is most likely just for the US, so I’d presume the UK date is still to be confirmed.
Check out the trailer below, and below that is a short film from the same director which I’d never seen before. I’ve always been a huge fan of the Portal game series, but I didn’t realise a short film had been made about it – Portal: No Escape.
