South Park: The Stick of Truth is the sixth game to be released based on the animated series, since the first one, South Park, was released back on the Nintendo 64 in 1998, and then on PC and PSone the following year.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this latest title. Sometimes games from a TV show are a bit lame, but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. It took four years to make, so had to be at least half decent.
The gameplay is like watching a long South Park show, interacting with the characters. The combat is turn-based which may discourage some players; I personally love turn-based games so it was all good! The dialogue is hilarious and is rated an 18 for a good reason – plenty of swearing and adult style jokes. Themes mentioned in the game are sex, abortion and poverty to name a few.
The main aim of the game is to fight for the stick of truth; you are the new kid in town so you have to make as many friends as possible.
Firstly you have to pick the class you wish from: Jew, Fighter, Thief and Mage, and each class has it’s own unique moves so it’s all down to preference, really. The game is set in a fictional land called the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Armour and weapons are not restricted, hjowever, so you can pick any you wish. You can also assign spells to your character, to have more of a chance of defeating enemies.
It’s a fun game in which you can put it down and pick it up any time you want – good to cheer you up when the weather is miserable.
