My BRUTALLY HONEST REVIEW of 100 METERS!

100 Meters 100 Meters centres around the rivalry between the two male leads, Togashi and Komiya, as they meet at school as young boys, the latter coming to the former’s school while he’s been there all his life, and both evenly-matched as they run the 100 Meters… (should be ‘metres’, but the American spelling was used for this anime movie).

Togashi has loads of trophies, while Komiya loves running because he thinks running can solve everything, even though with Sports Day coming up, he relies on some terrible shoes which have long since seen better days.

Before you know it, life suddenly takes Komiya to another school, but you know, for the purposes of storytelling, that something will bring them back together…

Meanwhile, Togashi goes through Junior High, discovers girls and helps out their Track and Field Club to boost the membership, since it’s on the verge of being cancelled due to not having enough members.

There’s also some rather random dialogue, such as the prophetic “Until you know reality, you must face it first”.

I understand this is based on the 100 Meters manga series, but it’s distinctly lacklustre in its storytelling, with wooden characters that do little to engage you. It looks nice, though, so is moderately engaging for its 105-minute running time, and since it’s a PG-rated film of niche interest, it only had 9 minutes of junk beforehand.

Personally, I won’t be running 100 meters any time soon, unless the other end contains Jennifer Aniston and an altar.

NOTE: There are no mid, nor post-credits scenes.

100 Meters is in cinemas now, but isn’t yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD. However, once announced, it will appear on the New DVD Blu-ray 3D and 4K releases UK list.
