Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials – The DVDfever Review – Netflix – Mia McKenna-Bruce

Agatha Christie's Seven Dials Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials is the latest tale from Mrs C’s works to get the TV treatment, this time on Netflix.

Opening in 1920, Ronda – a city in Andalusia, Spain, although not all of the full cast has been published prior to release, I recognised the first individual onscreen as Iain Glen, who’s clearly waiting with trepidation as to what may come while he’s stood in a bullring.

However, before we’re shown that he had just read a card with the drawn clock dials reading seven o’clock, he soon finds out that you can’t beat a bit of bully!

Fast-forward to London, 1925, and there’s an amusing prank for one chap who sleeps very deeply, as those who know him best set up a load of clocks to simultaneously wake him up at the crack of dawn, similar to the opening of Back To The Future.

While the posh household is run by Lady Caterham (Helena Bonham CarterFight Club), given that this is a ‘whodunit’, and that bodies will start to pile up at some point, although Martin Freeman is given the role of Superintendent Battle, the one doing most of the detective work is the Lady’s daughter, Eileen “Bundle” Brent (the petite and impossibly cute Mia McKenna-Bruce, from 2023’s How To Have Sex)

Naturally, I can’t say too much about Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials, so as to avoid spoilers, but despite running for almost three hours, it does get far more wordy than you’d expect in terms of how little the plot seems to be advanced as time goes by, and could easily have been cut back.

Oh, and playing butler Tredwell is the brilliant Guy Siner, recentlyish in The Crown Season 4, but best known from around 90 episodes of cheesy ’80s sitcom ‘Allo ‘Allo, as Lt Hubert Gruber.

Thanks to our friends at Netflix for the screener prior to release.

Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials is on Netflix from today.

It’s not yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but when it is, it will be listed on the New DVD, Blu-ray, 3D and 4K releases UK page.
