Curfew takes place in an alternate, dystopian world where all men are under curfew from 7pm to 7am daily, so women can trip the light fandango together, lording it up in front of us while we have to stay home.
But things are about to get serious, ad one man murders a woman while out at night, but how can this be when men are locked up already? Every male is tagged, such is the job for Sarah (Mandip Gill – Doctor Who), who’s also in the process of getting divorced. You’ll escape the process if you’re under 10, but either way, if you step out during that wee small hours, it won’t take long before the police finger you!
To that end, we see one man who does go out, so is it him or someone else? Well, the killer is unseen, since if they had been spotted, it’d make identifying them pretty easy.
However, in the interests of equality, what if it’s a man who identifies as female?
With DI Pamela Green (Sarah Parish – Piglets) in charge of the investigation as well as the interviewing of suspects, will she also be looking into how come male policemen are allowed out after hours?
The opening credits feature TV presenters such as Jeremy Vine, Storm Huntley and Dan Walker to comment on the process. In 2024, it feels a bit odd to include real people in films and TV shows, given how it’ll be difficult to watch Skyfall because it’s an awful Bond film… I mean, because Huw Edwards pops up in it.
There’s also a segment from Storm Huntley’s section of the Jeremy Vine show, albeit with contributor Geoff Norcott not only sat at the desk – which is usual for Vine’s section, whereas Storm’s sat around a sort-of coffee table – but also the time on the clip is 12:49, and her section ends official at 12:45, even though it’s a really fair few minutes before that, to account for adverts.
Although I wasn’t gripped by the opener, there’s also a lot of mumbling in it, so I might check a second one out, but I’ll do it when it goes live, since subtitles weren’t available on the preview.
