Hot Wheels Let’s Race Ultimate Speed adds to the Hot Wheels franchise, and this time, it’s essentially a kid’s game, but it’s still a challenge for adults like me at times, with some fiendishly tricky tracks.
The main part of the game is the Cup Champ races, with six different quartets of tracks, either at Slow, Medium, Fast or Ultra speeds, so when I went through these, I tried all of them, which led to an odd situation, since I couldn’t unlock the Golden Wheel (fourth) section, even though it states “Play Cup Champ 1-3 at least once to unlock this cup”. Erm… I did!
Eventually, I realised it meant “races 1-3” at the SAME SPEED! So, once I’d done that, I was able to go through Golden Wheel, even though it’s just four of the existing tracks and not new ones. I did also try emailing the makers of the game, but no-one replied.
As always with this sort of game, you’ll have elements that speed you up, along with some tracks having obstacles on tracks, including barrels coming at you. Along the way, you’ll also unlock new cars, decals, plus track parts for the Track Builder Challenges, of which there are 9, and you’ll need to add wacky parts to a standard track, and then go for a spin round it!
Other options include Speed Trials and a Free Race around any track, so plenty to get stuck into. And don’t forget the Ultimate Garage, which is a series of TWELVE races which you need to complete!
Just a couple of minor issues in Hot Wheels Let’s Race Ultimate Speed, however, in that it has very repetitive dialogue coming from the characters, although I am aware of the demographic at which its aimed.
However, one thing that definitely needs addressing is so iffy graphics in the CGI cut scenes, such as when you get to the end of a race and the winner’s jumping about and raising an energetic fist. Just chceck the outlines of some characters at this point. I was playing this prior to release, so maybe it’ll be fixed in a day one patch.
