My BRUTALLY HONEST REVIEW of I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER (2025)

I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) opens with the studio credit, “An Original Film Production”… Original?! A continuation of the series, with the exact same title as the first one?!

Back in the day, after the first film in 1997, I can’t remember if I saw the sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, but I definitely skipped the straight-to-video third film in 2006, I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer… Yes, these titles…

That said, in 2021, Amazon Prime brought this back as a TV series! It was not great..

Anyhoo, this time round Danica’s (Madelyn Cline) having an engagement party – because you can’t just have a straight-forward wedding, you have to make a whole song and dance about it, and in reality, no-one will give a fuck that you’re getting married, you narcissist. They’re a tedious waste of time for everyone else. Maybe women enjoy them, because it just gives them an excuse to gather and talk a lot.

However, while June is busting out all over for Danica, she’s still grieving her dead mum, but someone else is about to end up brown bread, as whilst in a car with friends – including Ava (Chase Sui WondersThe Studio) and her ex, Milo (Jonah Hauer-King, yes, him from the recent awful Doctor Who series), some bad driving and endless arguing amongst them causes another car to go off the road and into a ditch far down below, with the driver expected to be meeting their maker, right now.

One year later, Ava meets up with Milo, but she now bats for the other side? Or she could be bisexual, which is Latin for “not picky”, since her latest conquest is Tyler (Gabbriette Bechtel), who made a podcast about the 1997 murders.

This time round, Danica’s STILL not getting married yet, because she’s having a bridal splash, and she gets a card: “I know what you did last summer”. Alas, the Fisherman returns, someone gets harpooned to death, and she’s now in receipt of a new note, “You can’t erase your past”.

So, someone clearly knows what they did last summer, and plans to drag out 111 minutes of screen time to prove their point.

As the film goes on, more murders happen, so they need Julie James’ (Jennifer Love Hewitt) help, who’s now a lecturer. Ray Bronson (Freddie Prinze JrStar Wars Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker) also returns to the cast, and as you’d expect, the police are shit.

However, since this lot are endlessly in danger, how come these are the only Americans who DON’T carry guns?!

Plus, when the killer is revealed, and another character gets hold of the hook – with every opportunity to throw it out of everyone’s reach – why didn’t they just do so?! As a result, some of these people just DESERVE to be killed, because they’re thick as fuck!

I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) really didn’t deserve to come back from the dead. It’s never a chore to watch Jennifer Love Hewitt, and there are far worse ways to spend your time, but after three weeks in cinemas, it’s only taken $59.5m based upon a tight $18m budget. At least, to the filmmakers’ credit, they didn’t overspend on that, unlike, say, the awful The Naked Gun, which somehow spent $42m on its production budget, and has so far only recouped $36m, despite the huge amount of promotion spent on it.

NOTE: There’s also a number of cameos, as well as a mid-credits scene, as described in the video below.

I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) is in cinemas now, and is available to pre-order on 4K Blu-ray, Blu-ray and DVD.
