It’s The Small Things Charlie Brown, is another in a series of Peanuts animations for Apple TV+, which somehow I’ve completely missed while they’ve been on.
A lot of time in life, we’re told it’s the small (or little) things that count in life, and as we begin, Charlie is rudely woken up by Snoopy and Woodstock filling a paddling pool, with the hose spinning out of control and splatting him in the face.
He’s had a dream that his baseball team will finally beat that of Peppermint Patty, and they’ll take the crown for the Neighbourhood Pennant* (*a flag, I’ve since learned).
However, Charlie’s sister, Sally, chances upon a dandelion on the pitcher’s mound, thinks it’s a flower – while everyone else knows it’s a weed, then prepares to take up residence, thus cancelling the chance of a baseball game taking place, unless he can persuade her otherwise.
Add in a song, and although this is a cartoon which seems to go on rather too long – at 39 minutes, while so many things in life can change, the look of the Peanuts cartoons never does. Everyone stays the same age, and it makes you forget you’re getting older.
Overall, it’s worth a look, but if you don’t check it out immediately, you’re not missing a huge amount.
It’s The Small Things Charlie Brown is on Apple TV+ now, but isn’t yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD.
