Jonathan Strange And Mr Norrell is based on the 2004 novel by Susanna Clarke, depicting an alternative history set in 19th-century England around the time of the Napoleonic Wars, a time when, with magic long since lost to England, two men are destined to bring it back; the reclusive Mr Norrell (Eddie Marsan – Still Life) and daring novice Jonathan Strange (Bertie Carvel – Coalition). So begins a dangerous battle between two great minds…
The series also stars Marc Warren (Mad Dogs, The Musketeers), Alice Englert (New Worlds), Paul Kaye (Dennis Pennis), Vincent Franklin (Cucumber), Charlotte Riley (Peaky Blinders) and Samuel West (Fleming, W1A).
Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell is a seven-part series adapted for TV by Peter Harness and directed by Toby Haynes, but doesn’t yet have a broadcast date. Hope it’s not too far off as Eddie Marsan (above-right) is one of the UK’s finest actors and, based on the trailer, I’m really looking forward to this.
