Last Christmas is a forthcoming (yes, closer to Xmas), romantic comedy from Paul Feig (who only redeemed himself slightly with A Simple Favour after his godawful 2016 reboot of Ghostbusters), and starring Emilia Clarke (Terminator Genisys) along with Crazy Rich Asians‘ Henry Golding and Michelle Yeoh.
Synopsis: Kate (Clarke) is a young woman subscribed to bad decisions. Her last date with disaster? That of having accepted to work as Santa’s elf for a department store. However, she meets Tom (Golding) there. Her life takes a new turn. For Kate, it seems too good to be true.
For me, though, this rom-com looks about as funny as an enema backfiring in public. Also, it’s shot in 2.00:1, so when it’s broadcast in the cinema on a 2.35:1-shaped screen, it’ll be presented within a 1.85:1 container, so will be windowboxed and look ridiculous. Either go with 1.85:1 or 2.35:1!
Last Christmas is released in the UK on November 15th, so that’s one week after the US date.
