Lucy’s School – The DVDfever Review – Snoopy / Peanuts – Apple TV+

Lucy's School Lucy’s School is the latest Peanuts cartoon on Apple TV+, and coming up right on cue, summer’s just begun!

Of course, this means saying goodbye to Miss Othmar – their teacher with the wah-wah-wah voice, but for the kids, it means time spent down by the beach, although Pigpen STILL can’t get clean, even after jumping in the sea!

And as it’s baseball season again, can Charlie Brown’s team win this time? Well, no time for that, since no sooner has summer begun, that the ‘Back to School’ billboards and adverts are already in force! I’ve even seen that about in shops quite recently, and when I was last at school, 300 years ago, I remember it popping up on TV instantly, the minute I got home!

But the new year brings a new school, and they’re still mourning the loss of summer when there’s a whole week left… but that can happen.

Anxiety takes over as not everyone’s happy to deal with change… at which point, OMG! This also chimes with me. I still remember that feeling as I got to the end of Junior School as the summer began. The bell went and everyone was cheering… except I had that sinking feeling already, that from September, we’d all be in the Senior School. Ugh….

Along the way, the kids go to the store, Snoopy winds up Woodstock, Lucy pretends she knows best, claiming she’s found a way to never have to go to school again and have an endless summer. Presumably, one that doesn’t involve surfboards? Well, Lucy’s being the teacher because… it’s Lucy’s School. As for how viable that is in practice? I’m expecting unlikely, but it’s about the journey rather than the obvious facts, so go with it.

As usual, Snoopy has moments pretending to be an authoritarian figure, including goofing off with Woodstock, and while yes, I have spent part of this review resurrecting and dealing with the past trauma of my own school years, this was a delightful 39 minutes to watch, and I certainly enjoyed this more than It’s The Small Things Charlie Brown.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one. It’s like the old-school episodes I used to watch as a kid in the ’80s, even though they were made in the ’60s. They’re all so timeless.

Lucy’s School is on Apple TV+ now, but isn’t yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD.
