Of this week’s highlights and lowlights…

31 Beverley Knight – Sista Sista * !!!A soft, soulful, dreamy ballad and more worthy of the top slot than theperson who’s there now!

10 Lolly – Big Boys Don’t Cry/Rockin’ RobinTwo more covers and Lolly didn’t even know who sang the original of thelatter. It’s a 41 year old Bobby Day track. And why pick on “Big Boys” ?

6 Martine McCutcheon – Talking in your SleepCover version of Crystal Gayle song (No.11, August 78), performed onlast week’s PR-for-free, I mean, Children In Need.

4 Mel C – Northern Star *What’s this? Mel C in “good song” shock? Yes!

I first heard this a few weeks ago on Radio 2, of all stations. Took mea while to work out who it was as it sounded a long way from “Going Down”.It’s a very soft ballad and worth many a listen. Shame she looks soridiculous these days.

1 (2) Cliff Richard – The Millennium Prayer :O === *1st Week at No.1*The Lord’s Prayer set to the music of Auld Lang Syne. Sounds like a dreadfulprospect, and I’ve now heard the record. It’s even worse.

The music and the lyrics don’t go together at all. None of it scans, andthe worst bit is that which made me cringe – the ending. As he’s about toclose, he starts going on chanting “Amen…Amen…Amen…Amen…” etc.

It makes me want to scream at him to stuff his God shite up his arse!Definitely the worst single ever made.

And thanks to Cliff, he breaks the record-breaking run of 32 singles goingstraight in at No.1 which concluded, thus :

  • 1. Fatboy Slim – Praise You
  • 2. 911 – A Little Bit More
  • 3. Offspring – Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)
  • 4. Armand Van Helden featuring Duane Harden – You Don’t Know Me

  • 6. Lenny Kravitz – Fly Away
  • 7. Britney Spears – Baby One More Time
  • 8. Boyzone – When The Going Gets Tough
  • 9. B*witched – Blame It On The Weatherman
  • 10. Mr Oizo – Flat Beat
  • 11. Martine McCutcheon – Perfect Moment
  • 12. Westlife – Swear It Again
  • 13. Backpassage Boys – I Like It That Way
  • 14. Boyzone – You Needed Me
  • 15. Shanks and Bigfoot – Sweet Like Chocolate
  • 16. Baz Luhrmann – Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen)
