70 Kevin Kennedy – Bulldog NationOh well, so much for his pop career outside of Coronation Street!

56 Soulwax – Much Against Everyone’s Advice * !!!Another track with endless plays on MTV2. It starts softly, then breaks outinto an engaging rock tune that deserves to be played LOUD!

55 Eels – Flyswatter * !!!A more sombre rock track, most of the time, and another that’s gettingendless plays on MTV2 and which deserves to be in the Top 10. It’s damncatchy too.

And, going by the video, I wonder if nuns really behave like that?

50 Saint Etienne – Heart Failed (in the back of a taxi) * !!!Oh, why oh why isn’t this No.1? Bloody marvellous stuff!

Another track receiving endless plays on MTV2, it features Sarah Cracknell‘ssmooth vocals to a subtle dance beat.

42 Bob Marley Ft Mc Lyte – Jammin’Never liked this until it was performed in The Simpsons (Bart Gets a New Dog).

32 Idlewild – These Wooden Ideas * !!!Played to death on MTV2, but every time I hear this rocking tune I loveit even more.

MTV2 (Sky 446) also play their “When I Argue I See Shapes” (No.19, Feb 99)often too.

29 Jay Z – Big Pimpin’Well, whatever floats his boat…

26 England Supporters’ Band – Great Escape 2000Oh, purlease (!)

17 Richard Ashcroft – Money To BurnGood follow-up to “A Song For The Lovers”, but this doesn’t exactly breakany moulds for originality.

8 Backstreet Boys – The OneBut it’s a big pile of Number Twos.

5 Moby – Porcelain *Another hit from the “Play” album, which has now had every single tracklicenced from it for use in films, adverts and anything else. This track wasused in Leo DiCaprio’s film, The Beach.

3 Darude – SandstormOkay, but standard dance fare.

1 Black Legend – You See The Trouble With Me :O === *1st Week at No.1*A Barry White record that was a smash hit everywhere apart from here.However, the powers that be decided that his voice could not be used on theversion released here, so a sound-a-like London-based singerElroy “Spoonface” Powell was drafted in and the song was released underthe name Black Legend.

I bet all the sad sacks who bought this are the same ones who boughtLolly’s cover of Mickey, because she was a Toni Basil-wannabe for thatsong, in the same way this other loony is a Barry White-wannabe.

I saw him parading up and down the stage on CD:UK doing NOTHING apart fromgrinning and pretending to witter the odd word into the microphone everyfew seconds.

I could understand people buying it if it was a Barry White remix, but whenthe point of the whole thing is missing, WHY are people buying it?

Would they buy records by other imposters if they were just trying to soundlike their favourite bands?

This single is the 19th in a row to go straight in at No.1.

Dominator’s Top 50 of 1999

25. Geri Halliwell – Look At MeMaking No.2 in May last year, this was the first solo single for Geri sinceher split from the Spice Girls the year before and the bass line sounds like across between “History Repeating” by the Propellorheads & ShirleyBassey and that used in the recent IBM television ads. The video featuresher dressed up as a vamp, a bitch, a nun, and some other things which is all abit ridiculous, but it’s safe to say that the song stands up just fine on itsown.

Around the same time we were to find out what she’s been up to over that pastyear when her documentary, “Geri”, was aired on Channel 4 and it wasquite interesting.

She’s since followed this up with three No.1’s: Mi Chico Latino, Lift Me Upand Bag It Up.
