New UK Blu-ray & DVD releases October 29th 2012

Exactly one year after Tom Solomon (Jason Segel) meets Violet Barnes (Emily Blunt), he surprises her with a ring. By all accounts, Tom and Violet are destined for their happily ever after. However, this engaged couple just keep getting tripped up on the long walk down the aisle.

Well, there’s a couple of amusing moments in the trailer, but overall, it all looks kinda forced. Yes, the two leads are likeable, but do we really need another film like this?

Iris invites her friend Jack to stay at her family’s island getaway after the death of his brother. At their remote cabin, Jack’s drunken encounter with Hannah, Iris’ sister, kicks off a revealing stretch of days.

Starring Emily Blunt as Iris, and Rosemarie DeWitt as Hannah, and Mark Duplass as Jack, I got seriously bored watching this trailer. Emily Blunt is good looking, but she’s appearing in many American movies these days, all with her token British accent, so watch one of those instead. I recommend The Adjustment Bureau.

Your Sister’s Sister is released on Blu-ray and DVD.

Like a Centipede s segments The Human Centipede (First Sequence) is inextricably joined to The Human Centipede 2 (Full Sequence) where we find mentally disturbed car park attendant Martin obsessed with watching Tom Six s film. Pushed to the brink by his belligerent mother & haunted by the teasing voices of his abusive & imprisoned father, Martin plans to emulate Heiter s Centipede by creating his own version. In brutal juxtaposition Martin has no surgical skills, nor access to surgical implements. Anaesthesia is replaced by crowbar, stitches & sutures replaced by staple guns & duct tape, scalpels replaced by various household tools. What follows is one of the most harrowing and terrifying films ever conceived.

The Human Centipede (First Sequence) + (Full Sequence) 4-disc Special Ltd Edition Dual Format is released on Blu-ray.

Red Tails is based on the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African American servicemen during World War II, and is the first Lucasfilm production since Radioland Murders (1994) not associated with the Indiana Jones or Star Wars franchises. This movie stars Cuba Gooding, Jr. (who previously starred in The Tuskegee Airmen, an HBO made-for-television film about the same group of pilots) in his first theatrical film in five years, and Terrence Howard (who portrayed a Tuskegee pilot in Hart’s War).

what starts of feeling like a black version of Memphis Belle ends up being one of those life affirming pieces of nonsense with all the “Hey, aren’t we great, attitude”, getting to the point where I was nearly sick.
