Apocalypse: If it happened, and you were stuck in the world of The Last Of Us – albeit without the zombies – how would you survive?
It’s basically a vision of Britain if Reform UK were to take power.
There’s a total of 16 people, but they’re in groups, unaware of the others’ presence. And no TV on which to watch Jeremy Vine… oh, what bliss! 😀
Can they rebuild society from scratch without any of the essentials of modern life? – is the question. And how long before the apocalypse becomes a reality? Depends how long before we can legally snatch and defile the carcass of Piers Morgan…
There’s a lot of running round, trying to find what’s left in supermarkets, while being followed by shaky camerawork. There’s an abandoned train in the middle of nowhere… okay, it’s an army training ground, specifically designed for this purpose.
Apocalypse features the usual conflicting personalties, causing them to snap at each other, and every building looks much like another. Oh, and you need a bucket for a toilet, such as one exchange… “Is it going okay?”… “No, I’m shitting in a bucket in an abandoned school!”
As for the contestants, they’re all a bit uneven. One’s a paralympian. Another’s a… erm…. content creator. Yeah, that’s not a job. And Steven’s goatee isn’t helping, either. No wonder he gets a huff from Cattle Farmer Scott!
Apocalypse is all a bit daft, but moderately entertaining hokum. One bugbear: all the sit-down vox pops are shot with two cameras – one where they’re facing just off-camera, and the other from the side. God, I hate this sort of thing. Looks like they don’t know which way they’re meant to sit. I know a lot of shows do it, though.

Apocalypse begins tomorrow night on Channel 4 at 9pm, then runs weekly. Once broadcast, each episode will be on All 4.
It’s not yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but when it is, it will be listed on the New DVD, Blu-ray, 3D and 4K releases UK page.
