news page picNo Big Brother 5 on DVDfever this year…

It’s that time again, and this time the housemates are back in a redesigned, but smaller, accommodation with 12 of them sharing an area that’s a third downin size than before.

So why am I not doing a summary of this year’s events? I’d done one for BB2,BB3 and BB4, but last year’s was rather dull by comparison to the previous two,and I didn’t have high hopes for this year’s edition, even though they promisedBig Brother would get “evil”.

It’s not going to happen though. Yes, they’ve picked people from a variety ofbackgrounds (read the individual profiles on the link from the eye above-right),and it’s definitely a make-or-break year for Channel 4 after the flop of BB4,and their failure to get tough with the “three strikes and you’re out” ruleof BB3. However, my suspicions have proved right so far as they’ve startedto settle down quite quickly.

I’ll still watch it, but I don’t feel there’s anything particularly worthgoing to town on a webpage about. Out of the 12, there’s none of them I canidentify with, whereas in previous years we might have seen elements of somein all of us, and that’s where the problem lies for most people watchingbecause they’re too different from each other.

Whether I watch until the end is a different matter, but even so far theattempted “let’s have a revolution” by Kitten was funny for an hour orso, but after that things calmed down and the housemates will just getannoyed and nominate her.

Big Brother 5 is on Channel 4 on each night at either 9pm or 10pm,depending on the day.

news page picMay 24th:Confessions of a directorial debut on DVD…

On the plus side, it’s got a script by Charlie Kaufman, and behind-the-scenestinkering from Steven Soderbergh, but on the downside George Clooney isboth starring in this and making his directorial debut, and he’s also stuckthe woeful Julia Roberts in it.

But then there’s the unknown factor that is Sam Rockwell. Can his presencemake this story all come together?
