July 30th:Manhunt on Xbox – it’s cool to be cruel!…
A few short months ago, we brought you this review of a game full of violence, even more graphic in places than theGrand Theft Autoseries, and with its 18-certificate, awarded by the BBFC, you’d think somepeople might adhere to this, but no.
Step forward chief uber-dickhead and self-confessed killer Warren LeBlanc, aged 17, who killed a boy of 14 and while I have every sympathy for theparents of the murdered boy, they’re wrong to blame a game that has nothingto do with the situation because you can’t legislate for every complete nutjoband fruitloop out there.
What made things even worse was when publicity-whores The Dixons Stores Grouphave removed the game from their shelves in a bid to get themselves some freepublicity. But am I publicising them here? No. This is because I would askthat anyone ever thinking of buying anything ever from Dixons – and their otherrip-off segments, PC World, Currys and The Link – is also in need of seekinga large amount of psychiatric help.
You’d have to have the brains of a slug to make any purchase from a shop thatemploys know-nothing fuckwits and charges far more than any sane person hasa necessity to spend. I mean, don’t just plump for whatever those twats tellyou when buying something, ask those people YOU know for advice! I could advisesomeone on what PC to buy, but I’d ask someone else if I was looking for anew car as I can’t tell one end of an engine from another.
(For what it’s worth, for those looking for a PC that’s all put together anddoesn’t need any construction, I’d recommend Staples. In my family, we’ve boughttwo PCs from there, the staff are immensely helpful and the prices competitive. Also, you can take it back within two weeks under their no-quibble guarantee)
And if you are still thinking of buying anything from Dixons and their relatedstores, I’ll just bring up the time when I was young and inexperienced andwent to pick up a repaired walkman which I’d bought under their rip-offextended warranty (I have since learned my lesson). I went to the Stockportstore to collect it and arrived at 5.40pm (they shut at 5.45pm at that time)and the door was locked. I knocked on the door, but while I could see staffmilling about, the only response was, “The tills are off!”, despitethe fact the time wasn’t up, I didn’t need a till and I just wanted my Walkman!!
I wrote a letter of complaint to them then, as well as one other time whichwarranted it, and got no reply. They clearly are a waste of space, and I onlywish that Warren LeBlanc had spared the kid he did kill, and found some lessviolent way to overthrow Dixons and shut them all down because they clearlyare prats of the highest order.
I make no apologise for the strong opinions voiced above, but it is a topicon which I feel strongly.
All that said, Manhunt is great stuff. The review says why. Go read!
After that, feel free to discuss this in the forumhere.
Manhuntis online and out on Xbox now from all good shops, so not Dixons then.
