The Interpreter (£19.99, out August 15th from Universal Pictures Video)is Nicole Kidman’s latest film to reach DVD, in which she plays African-born U.N. interpreter Silviawho inadvertently overhears a death threat against an African head of state scheduled to address the U.N.General Assembly. Realising sheÂ’s become a target of the assassins as well, Silvia becomes desperate tothwart the plot… if only she can survive long enough to get someone to believe her.
Tobin Keller (Sean Penn), the federal agent charged with protecting Silvia, suspects she might not betelling the whole truth. Silvia and Tobin see life from different points of view: Silvia believes inthe power and sanctity of words while Tobin believes in reading people based on their behaviour, nomatter what is said.
Extras include: Deleted Scenes, Alternate Ending, Audio Commentary with Director Sydney Pollack,‘A Day in the Life of Real Interpreters’ featurette, Sydney Pollack at Work: From Concept to CuttingRoom, Interpreting Pan & Scan vs Widescreen, The Ultimate Movie Set: The United Nations.
Note the difference in covers. The one on the right was the original, but since the London bombings onJuly 7th, it’s been replaced so that it doesn’t feature one with a bus being blown up on the front.Given that Ken Livingstone, the Chief of the Metropolitan Police and others have said that the countryshould carry on as normal, why do they then pander to the terrorists by doing the opposite with thingslike the cancelling of TV shows and film broadcasts – which weren’t planned to coincide with anything, the changing of packshots – which wasn’t planned to coincide with anything, and enforced two minutes’silence all over the shop – the increase in these just diluting the main one in November and coming aboutmore frequently since the death of Princess Diana.
WWE Road Warriors (£24.99, Silver Vision) is out now.
Hawk and Animal, better known as the Legion of Doom, were the only tag-team ever to hold all three majortitles – WCW, AWA and WWE. This DVD charts their journey from their debut in the early 1980s to thetragic death of Hawk in 2003 and features the most memorable bouts and interviews.
