Do you “feel the need, the need for speed”, like Goose and Maverick in Top Gun?

Race eighty sleek, different Porsches, some downloadable and each created out of 2000 polygons, from the first 356 model released in 1950 to this year’s 911 Turbo. There are several game modes from Porsche Evolution, allowing you work your way through fifty years of Porsche history, mission-based challenges, a Knockout round and a simple quick race.

The graphics are stunning as you tear around the Pyrenees and Cote D’Azur, as well as a pumping dance soundtrack although we’re not talking “Wipeout” quality here. You can play with up to 7 PC opponents or go online and there’s clever features in the damage mode as your cars meet bumper to bumper and a replay option as you view from any available camera position.

However, even on a decent PC, what “Need for Speed” needs is SPEED!

Rampaging along at over 100mph feels more like 40mph and it’s also difficult to control the car, which serves to kill the interest so grabbed by the visuals.
