Ode To Joy stars Martin Freeman as Charlie, who suffers from cataplexy, a symptom of narcolepsy which causes sudden bouts of paralysis whenever he experiences strong emotions – in particular, joy. He develops a variety of techniques to deny himself too much plea -sure and happiness, but they’re put to the ultimate test when he falls in love.
In short, it makes him fall asleep.
However, based on this trailer, where relationships go back and forth like a yoyo, it was ME who was in danger of falling asleep.
While the trailer is below, a better bet is the video below that where Kay Underwood was on GMTV in August 2008, talking about how she also suffers from cataplexy.
Ode To Joy is released in the US on August 9th, but there’s no UK release date yet.
