Old Suits are a new alternative pop band from Manchester and are formed from previous bands including Random Project and Kid Galahad, the latter of which had a fantastic track called Punk, which I used for one of my Grand Theft Auto IV clip videos (see link further down).
Their debut EP, “On Becoming a Ghost”, is out now and Old Suits featured a good friend of mine, Jenny J. Gartland, on bass and vocals, and the 4-track disc starts with the slow, anthemic, “It’s Never Easy”, a piece which will take a long time to fade from the memory after hearing it; “Now You’re A Ghost” has a touch of Muse about it, while both “Say You Will” and the more upbeat “Dance with the Dead” both sound like classic early New Order.
All the tracks have a very accomplished feel about them and the E.P. as a whole reminds me of it sounds like the kind of thing I would’ve bought when they performed at a University gig, fallen in love with it and then played it until the CD’s plastic melted. Today, in the age of MP3 and with local stations taking an active interest in local bands, all four tunes would sound right at home on XFM.
Old Suits are playing on Friday 24th February at 6.30pm at Kraak in the Northern Quarter where they’ll be launching this E.P., and the rest of the band features
- Pedro F. Lax on Vocals/Guitars
Thom S. Whittaker on Guitars/Shaker/Vocals
Rob W. Clark – Synths/Vocals
Jenny J. Gartland- Bass/Vocals
Ryan Q. Hurley – Drums/Percussion
