My BRUTALLY HONEST REVIEW of POWER: THE DOWNFALL OF HUW EDWARDS on CHANNEL 5!

Power: The Downfall of Huw Edwards Power: The Downfall of Huw Edwards opens with Martin Clunes (Mother’s Pride) as the nonce-newsreader jogging, making me wonder: No way did Huw Edwards go jogging!

However, it’s not long before, via another man, he’s soon texting 17-year-old Ryan, telling him, “You look younger than 17“, and bribing him with cash into his Paypal account, encouraging him further into stripping off, adding, “Slowly, baby…”

Once Ryan does tell his parents about Edwards and before they get The Sun involved, I did wonder, when his Dad remonstrated outside the BBC (unless this was a dramatised scene that didn’t quite happen that way), who then threatened with getting the police, why didn’t he just stay, and say, “You want to get the police? Fine by me!”

Ultimately, God knows how Huw Edwards was let off with a six-month suspended sentence, even when arrested with pictures of young children in his possession and pleading guilty to some of the charges, but then we know the police cover their own backs for as long as they can, given the likes of Wayne Couzens.

Edwards was even one of those newsreaders filmed reading news reports in movies, such as Skyfall. I’m not sure if he’s been replaced in that (bar physical media coopies), but for a Doctor Who episode, Fear Her, he was in as a voiceover, that’s since been replaced by actress Becky Wright.

However, what was a hell of a downfall for the then-biggest newsreader on TV, sadly feels so cookie-cutter and quite dull, even when Ryan’s shown snorting cocaine in front of his mum. I don’t know yet quite how they could’ve improved it, so I’ll have to think on that one, but for now, it’s just…. ‘meh’.

And when I saw Clunes in the recent, aforementioned Mother’s Pride, his sticky-out ears just reminded me of Channel 5’s own Jeremy Vine, so if there’s ever a drama to be made about him, Clunes is ready…

Power: The Downfall Of Huw Edwards is now on My5.

It’s not yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but when it is, it will be listed on the New DVD, Blu-ray, 3D and 4K releases UK page.
