Ozark Season 3 begins with an optional recap which is necessary for me, because while I do remember a number of key elements from season 2, it has been almost 18 months since it was broadcast.
In Ozark-time, we’re six months on, and we open in Coahuila State, Mexico, with an inital situation that would surely be overheard by someone else? But clearly, not… for a short time.
This time around, Marty and Wendy Byrde (Jason Bateman and Laura Linney) are recruiting businesses to operate on their Missouri Belle paddleboat casino. However, thanks to the cartel war that’s developed, Wendy suggests looking to expanding into a new venture… hotels. Marty’s not happy because the cash to get it going would come from a dodgy chap called Navarro… so, it’s drug money.
Our main man needs a way to launder money once again, and this way, it’ll be through the casino, and in a way that’s completely untraceable… well, until things go tits up at some point as they generally do.
So, the stage is quickly set for some great meat on the bones of Ozark Season 3.
As I type, I’m halfway through the season so far, and it does show so far that Ozark really knows how to pack an emotional – and physical – punch… and I’m still trying to figure out what’s going on with Darlene.
So far, there’s already a strong start for swear-a-lot Ruth (Julia Garner) – working alongside Marty at the casino, and Helen (Janet McTeer) – working alongside Wendy, and who shows her path in life is far from plain sailing, while former real estate agent Sam Dermody’s (Kevin L Johnson) story for season 3 is just getting started. I’ll round things out when I get to the end, whilst avoiding spoilers.
And is it just me who’s finding Julia Garner uber-hot this season? 😀
In the final analysis for Season 3… (cue spoiler header – because I’ll talk about certain aspects of it)
Also, if you want more Sam Dermody, there’s an interview below with Kevin which was live on Facebook the day before Season 3 started. It’s well worth checking out.
Ozark Season 3 is not available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but is on Netflix now.
