Momentum Pictures releases one of the most astonishingly beautiful (The Times) and breathtaking films of the year to own and rent on DVD, and in spectacular high-definition on Blu-ray, on 26 January 2009. THE FALL has to be seen to be believed.
Award winning music video, commercial and film director Tarsem (The Cell) creates a moving and seamless blending of mundane life in a Los Angeles hospital with a visually sumptuous fantasy world of exotic bandits, evil tyrants, dream-like palaces and breathtaking landscapes. Little White Lies called the film extraordinary and simply beautiful, a banquet for the eyes and The Times said it was an eye-searing fantasy extravaganza, looks like nothing else youve seen in cinema.
Both the DVD and Blu-ray contain fantastic special features to give you a behind-the-scenes insight into THE FALL, including two featurettes, two audio commentaries and deleted scenes.
Winner of the Crystal Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival and Best Film at the Catalonian International Film Festival The Fall was shot on location in 20 countries around the world including India, Argentina, Chile, China, Egypt, Fiji, Italy, the Maldives and Namibia and without the use of CGI special effects with spectacular results. Featuring some of the years most awe-inspiring images, The Fall is both an imaginative fairy tale and a very adult allegory about the power of despair, devotion and dreams (Film Review).
In a hospital on the outskirts of 1920s Los Angeles, an injured stuntman (Pushing Daisies Lee Pace) begins to tell a fellow patient, a little girl (Catinca Untaru) with a broken arm, a fantastical story about 5 mythical heroes set in an exotic far off land. Thanks to his fractured state of mind and her vivid imagination, the line between fiction and reality starts to blur as the tale advances and takes a sinister, life-threatening turn.
Director Tarsem studied in the Himalayas in India before moving to the United States when he was 24. His major breakthrough was REMs Losing My Religion music video that won MTVs Best Video award. In 2000, he directed his first feature film, The Cell starring Jennifer Lopez and was inspired to make The Fall after seeing the Bulgarian film Yo Ho Ho. The Fall was a personal passion project for Tarsem, and he broke one of Hollywoods cardinal rules by self-financing the film, knowing that no-one in the industry would buy his dreams of travelling to so many countries and sumptuous exotic locations. It took him nearly 16 years to complete the film with the support of fellow filmmakers David Fincher and Spike Jonze.
The film stars Golden Globe nominated actor Lee Pace (Pushing Daisies) and features an amazing breakthrough performance by first-time Romanian child actress Catinca Untaru.
Pace also starred in Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day and recently appeared opposite Matt Damon in Robert De Niro’s CIA drama The Good Shepherd, and alongside Daniel Craig in the Truman Capote biopic Infamous.

The DVD is released on January 26th 2009, it runs for 118 mins and retails for £17.99 on DVD,but is currently on Amazon at the link above for £10.98.A Blu-ray version will also retail for £24.99.
