If you mention the names Roobarb and Custard to anyone over the age of 20,there’s a very good chance that they’ll enthusiastically start singing

Now thanks to Contender Entertainment Group’s Kult Kidz label, nostalgic fanseverywhere can enjoy the music and all 30 surreal episodes of the series oncemore as The Complete Roobarb is released on DVD for the first time on 16thJune 2003.

With only eight episodes previously available on VHS, the release is a realtreat for collectors of cult TV and will appeal to a whole new generation ofRoobarb fans who will be introduced to the characters when the series airs onFive from 22nd March this year (Saturday, 8.20am)

First bounding onto British TV screens in 1974 in a unique and chaotic newstyle of animation, the scruffy green mongrel Roobarb took centre-stage eachweek between his house and shed where he would optimistically try out new andsilly hair-brained schemes in front of a captive audience who were always readyto laugh hysterically at his mishaps.

Narrated by Richard Briers, each fun-packed episode finds Roobarb going aboutsome lunatic mission or other with the next door neighbour, Custard, sittingon the garden fence watching with amusement and derision. A lazy andmischievous bright pink cat who’s always ready to poke fun at Roobarb, sneakyCustard and a group of grinning birds gather in the garden each day to sharein the mirth that is created by Roobarb’s inevitable misfortune.
