THE RUTLES:
ALL YOU NEED IS CASHDistributed by

“The Rutles story is a legend. A Living Legend. A legend that will live a lifetime, long after lots of other living legendshave died”. (Sleeve notes from the back of The Rutles album).
Possibly the greatest and certainly the funniest rockumentary of all time, thehilarious The Rutles – All You Need Is Cash was first shown on BBC1 in1978 and will be released to own on video and special edition DVD by SecondSight on October 7th 2002.
Newly restored and featuring previously unavailable scenes, the DVD will includean introduction and commentary from Eric Idle plus deleted scenes.
Changing the course of music history forever, The Rutles represented the very bestof British humour as Monty Python luminary Eric Idle and Saturday Night Livefilmmaker Gary Weis collaborated with Neil Innes, Michael Palin, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Mick Jagger, Paul Simon, John Belushi andeven George Harrison for a musical parody documentary of the Beatles.
Narrated by Idle, this musically brilliant spoof pokes affectionate fun at Beatlesmythology. Featuring the “pre-fab four” of Nasty, Barry, Stig and Dirk, who underthe guidance of agent Leggy Mountbatten make pop history with such hit songsas Please Please Let Me Hold Your Hand and I Am the Waitress, thefilm also follows the band’s film successes with A Hard Day’s Rut, Ouch!,Tragical History Tour, Yellow Submarine Sandwich, and Let It Rut.
We also see such career highlights as Nasty’s declaration that The Rutles aremore popular than God (he meant “Rod,” as in Rod Stewart) plus the beginningof the rumour that Dirk is dead (whereupon Stiggy starts his own rumour thathe is dead), and Nasty’s unfortunate liaison with a Yoko Ono counterpart (depictedas a Neo-Nazi dominatrix). Rivalling Spinal Tap as the funniest rock spoofever made, The Rutles All You Need Is Cash is a must have for both fans ofThe Rutles and The Beatles this autumn.
