A hilarious and raunchy comedy from the producers ofNotting Hilland Bridget Jones’ Diary, The Guru is an uproarious blendof Bollywood and Hollywood. Starring Jimi Mistry (East Is East, EastEnders), Heather Graham(Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, Boogie Nights), Marisa Tomei(My Cousin Vinny, What Women Want), Sanjeev Bhaskar (Goodness GraciousMe, Anita And Me) and Michael McKean (Spinal Tap, Clerks, Best In Show),the film follows the fortunes of Ramu Gupta (Mistry), a young Indian danceinstructor with dreams of making it big in Hollywood.
Living in India and longing to dance like John Travolta, the nearest that Ramugets to being in Grease is teaching the locals how to do The Macarena! Unfulfilled and fed up, Ramu heads to New York in search of his cousin who issupposed to be a success there but ends up joining him as a waiter trying tomake ends meet.
When Ramu finally gets his break in the movies, he finds himself on the set ofa porn film and is unable to ‘perform’ on command. Taking pity on him, Ramu’sco-star Sharonna (Heather Graham) gives him the benefit of her unique view onall things sexual which he later then uses as his material when forced to fillin for a drunken guru at a party for a New York socialite (Marisa Tomei).
As word spreads about the sexual wisdom of ‘The Guru of Sex’, Ramu is propelledinto the limelight but must pretend that he is still learning to be a porn starin order to continue getting advice from Sharonna.
When not auditioning for outrageous movies such as Glad He Ate Her and GoodWill Humping, Ramu is becoming a star but he is also falling for the woman heis deceiving.
When she finds out, will he still be the one that she wants? Only a very funny,very colourful and heart warming show stopper of a musical finale willtellÂ….
