R-Type Delta: HD Boosted is an extended title which continues the R-Type series, which I remember back in the day in the arcades, then brought to the ZX Spectrum – albeit nowhere near as flashy.
R-Type Delta was the fourth entry, out in 1998, and the first one to feature 3D graphcs, later coming out as R-Type Delta HD in 1999. 26 years on, it’s even more flashing and in-your-face. Essentially, it looks great and plays great, but it’s bloody hard! 😀
As such, I even struggled to complete the first level, but i managed it, but after that and then dying, it doesn’t let you jump to the second level and crack on from there. Hence, for the time being, I think that’s as far as I’m going. I even tried to go through the first level again, and couldn’t manage it! Why not? Because it’s hard, and I’m rubbish 😀
One of the toughest aspects is that while you’re running aroudn the screen to stay alive, it’s the stray bullets from the baddies that often get you, because you’re too busy trying to keep track of where the enemy ships are, to realise that there’s a single projectile that’ll come along and finish you in an instant!
There will be better people than I who’ll kick through the whole game without thinking too much – which will run for around 40 minutes or so, but sadly, that’s not me. Still, I might get back into it soon.
