Ransom Canyon… the place where everyone lives in big, posh houses, everyone wears a Stetson indoors, and the men have first names like Davis, Yancy and Staten!
Staten’s (Josh Duhamel) wife has been fridged, while Quinn O’Grady… yes, I have to point out that this name belongs to a female character – and played by Minka Kelly (Detroit: Become Human), just sees a single man, who’s making her feel all wistful and romantic.
The plot quickly moving on a year later, and they’re a couple… Maybe?
The name of the place may be Ransom Canyon, but we’re in pure soap opera territory.
This is a place where a man has his nipples exposed inside a bar, all men are flat-chested.
Women are the opposite, and they’re not showing off their threepenny bits for nobody.
Everyone has trouble with love, only to be saved by bland platitudes and weak chat-up lines…
The school kids at the local high school are all about the age of 25, in reality.
Every scene requires oodles of incidental music, similar to Channel 5’s The Feud.
Plus, everyone in life has their struggles… Me? I just about managed to make it through the first episode!
For Ransom Canyon, it’s a bland, insipid soap opera, and since originality has long since fallen into its OWN canyon, given the fact that this does have a tinge of Dallas from the late ’70s and into the ’80s, time will most likely tell that RC will have a huge following and it’ll ALSO run for 14 seasons.
All it needs is for LeAnn Rimes to burst into song at random moments…
Thanks to our friends at Netflix for the screener prior to release.
Ransom Canyon is not available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but is on Netflix from today.
