Newcomer Piper Perabo plays Violet Sanford,a 21-year-old who leaves her father (John Goodman – Roseanne, TheFlintstones) behind and heads for New York to try and make it big as asongwriter. To do this she has to earn the money, so finds herself working asa coyote in a back street bar called “Coyote Ugly”, where the Coyote girlsdance and shake their stuff to keep the punters happy.
Violet has one fear – stage fright. Kevin (Adam Garcia) and Violet fallfor each other in a major way and he takes it upon himself to cure her of herfear. He even sells his Superman Special Edition comic so she could get a gigat a club. This film has had it’s fair share of bad reviews(DVDfever Dom: “See mineHERE, but don’tlet this put you off.”)
As you’d expect, Violet becomes more confident and eventually gets her gig.
I found the film to be straight forward, it could have had a much better story line which is quite predictable, this making it a longer film if someonehad put their mind to it.Piper makes a good performance with Adam Garcia coming a close second. The newcomers out act the well-knowns by far. There’s also a special appearance from LeAnn Rimes, putting the extra sparkleto the film for her fans who will like it.
Coyote Ugly is nothing to get excited about from the trailers, whichmake it look flashy and and exciting, but if you watched the trailer I amafraid you have watched the film. However, I did like it because it was easyand enjoyable.
Presented in anamorphic 2.35:1 widescreen, the picture quality is bold andcolourful, although the closing credits are hard to read and the subtitlesoccasionally find themselves at the top of the screen which gets in the way ofthe action.
There are no faults with the sound quality and the song material is of good stock too. It’s available in English in Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1,with a French Dolby Digital 5.1 option too.
In the extras dept., this DVD is full of them, going on for at least an extrahour, including interviews and behind the scenes. I found it had goodinformation and the actors seemed to enjoy making the film.
