Elly Roberts reviews
(Is This The Way To)
The World Cup
Following last years smash hit, Is This The Way To Amarillo? pennedby Neil Sedaka, the same tune gets revamped lyrics by football fans IanStringer, a football commentator and Big George Webley, credited with musicfor Have I Got News For You and The Office.
They got the demo played by BBC Radio 1s Chris Moyles, who said, “Trust mewhen I tell you this will go round in your head.”
Stringer added,“.. our song connects with the terraces, it is about the passion anddesire of England competing in and winning the World Cup.”
Co-writerGeorge said, “If it wasnt for SportAid we might not have seen the likesof Freddie Flintoff, Kelly Holmes and Steve Redgrave. Thats why were givingeverything to SportsAid.”
Tony Christie loved the reworking and jumped at the chance to record itand even if the words are predictably terrace-orientated, its well worthsupporting.
All proceeds received by Ian and George will go to SportsAid.

Elly Roberts passed away in 2011, but he was a man who was so passionate about all types of music and loved meeting his musical heroes, such as Mick Hucknall at a book signing at the Trafford Centre, Manchester in 2007.
A former teacher and also a music journalist, DJ and radio presenter on local community station Calon FM, plus appearances on BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Cymru and BBC Radio 2, Elly started doing reviews for DVDfever.co.uk in 2004 and he did the majority of the CD and concerts reviews on the website.
I know also that he loved getting away for the summer to Spain and I hope that wherever he is now he is enjoying the hot sunshine and, as one of his friends has said on his Facebook page, that he is interviewing his musical heroes.
