Leicesters answer to Sigur Ros. Good though.
For a bunch of youngsters, average age of only 20, Leicesters very own Kyterelease an album way beyond their years.
This seven-tracker debut bodes well for the future. Their melodic templateguarantees instant appeal across all ages, which a pretty good sign.
Planet (released as a 7 single on Sonic Cathedral) is a deft, if somewhatover-indulgent, soft rock ballad that introduces their undisputed musicalcredentials with soaring vocals and a kind of musical backdrop that broughtColdplay much attention early on. Hushed vocals and jangly guitar texturise thefloaty Boundaries, which has already been used on a nationally aired advert forthe Sopranos on HBO some feat for an unknown band.
Icelands Sigur Ros come to mind when hearing Secular Ventures, a shifting-synthbased ballad that ambles along, punctuated by some stylish drumming. Again SigurRos quirky glacial landscapes feature heavily on the beautiful Sunlight,a track that would have benefited from a monstrous crescendo. Home takes timeto get going. When it does, its pleasant enough an instrumental, but notparticularly memorable either.
They Wont Sleep would have shone brighter with some kind of dynamic orhook to keep us interested above its one dimensional quality. Its almost twominutes before rambling These Tales Of Our Stay actually gets anywhere andthen its very much a damp squib.
It took some time for Sigur Ros to get going, so with time on their side,Kyte might just fly one day.

Elly Roberts passed away in 2011, but he was a man who was so passionate about all types of music and loved meeting his musical heroes, such as Mick Hucknall at a book signing at the Trafford Centre, Manchester in 2007.
A former teacher and also a music journalist, DJ and radio presenter on local community station Calon FM, plus appearances on BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Cymru and BBC Radio 2, Elly started doing reviews for DVDfever.co.uk in 2004 and he did the majority of the CD and concerts reviews on the website.
I know also that he loved getting away for the summer to Spain and I hope that wherever he is now he is enjoying the hot sunshine and, as one of his friends has said on his Facebook page, that he is interviewing his musical heroes.
