Fearless pomp-rock breathtaking!
Given the right exposure, Sine Star Project could be a really massive band.
This highly charged, emotional and arty album gives a huge nod to some of thegreats including Led Zeppelin, Queen and more recently Muse. Its creator,Peter J Croissant and co, which also includes 35 guest musicians, have unleasheda freewheeling monster.
It’s not all blood and thunder as you might imagine, but a clever fusion of rock, classical overtones, jazz and electronica, which curiously blend together. Itopens with the power-pop Bleeding Like A Dog. This is the kind of killerhook that most bands would die for. Its impact holds you instantly, boosted bya romping chorus and wailing guitar solo, rounded off by neat piano tinklings. This shows the band is acutely aware of dynamics that surface again on Brown Bread,a whopping rocker that features ear-piercing solos and thumping riff.
Further classical influences surface on the divine soft-rocker Eternal Sadness Of Man,a lazy ballad, showing theyre a very adaptable and versatile band. Shades ofclassic Led Zep permeate Chine Drag Queen. A slow and deceptive build-upeventually leads to a riff sequence on the scale of Kashmir, though notas sustained.
The pace and intensity drops on the next two Glitter Ghost and Little Bird. The Temptress would make a cracking single. Its lightweight enough tomake most radio playlists. The thump and grind of Post Human surely hasshades of Red Hot Chili Peppers, but with more sophistication, and edge.
In true bombastic fashion, they end on a high Cathedral. This is theirunforgettable opus: riffs, angelic vocals and big production bring back memories ofEmerson Lake and Palmer, and its wonderful stuff.
File under: Get it now.

Elly Roberts passed away in 2011, but he was a man who was so passionate about all types of music and loved meeting his musical heroes, such as Mick Hucknall at a book signing at the Trafford Centre, Manchester in 2007.
A former teacher and also a music journalist, DJ and radio presenter on local community station Calon FM, plus appearances on BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Cymru and BBC Radio 2, Elly started doing reviews for DVDfever.co.uk in 2004 and he did the majority of the CD and concerts reviews on the website.
I know also that he loved getting away for the summer to Spain and I hope that wherever he is now he is enjoying the hot sunshine and, as one of his friends has said on his Facebook page, that he is interviewing his musical heroes.
