Michaela Strachan is the bubbly blonde whofirst appeared on our TV screens nearly 20 years ago on WACaday, a spin-off from theWide Awake Club, founded by the irrepressible Timmy Mallett andhis not-so-good mate and co-presenter Tommy Boyd, now a phone-inpresenter on TalkSport.
Michaela spent the late 80s as the other half of The Hit Man And Herwith music mogul Pete Waterman and has since gone on to do a numberof animal-related programmes, but this DVD concentrates on being Wild AboutBaby Animals.
Filmed at Longleat Safari Park, she checks out the giraffes, mountain lions, foxes, racoons, deer, skunks, owls, polar bears, seals, prairie dogs andeven regular lions. When she’s not talking and the non-humans are on film, they take on a Johnny Morris-like stance, talking to each other indodgy accents.
This is primarily for kids, but older kids that are heading for 30, or evenolder in some cases, can buy it for the nostalgia value of putting MichaelaStrachan back on your box.
The picture quality is fine most of the time, although not all of the animalfootage is perfect and it’s in fullscreen. The average bitrate is 6.9Mb/s. The sound is in vanilla stereo and comes acrosswithout a hitch.
Sadly there are no extras, no subtitles and the menus are as silent as TimmyMallet’s TV career.
