Ripper Street is the series starring Matthew Macfadyen and Jerome Flynn that the BBC dropped a bollock on when they cancelled it after two series, which ended in 2013, much to the annoyance of fans.
Amazon answered the call for this series where the Whitechapel police fight to bring law to the lawless in the wake of Jack the Ripper’s reign of terror, and picked it up for their Amazon Prime service, launching Series 3 on November 14th 2014, with the BBC getting it starting tonight on BBC1 at 9pm, and every Friday night for eight weeks.
Also starring Adam Rothenberg and MyAnna Buring, the first episode is “Whitechapel Terminus” and in this one, four years have passed. Time that has seen Reid, Drake and Jackson split and isolated from one another. But when the robbery of a goods train leads to a cataclysmic locomotive disaster on Leman Street itself, the men and their resentments are reunited to seek its cause.
Meanwhile, Long Susan has made good on her promise to take control of Obsidian Estates, and has turned it into a legitimate business of huge philanthropic ambition. But such aspirations have a price – one which is paid by all those to lose their lives in the Leman Street Disaster.
Now, can they do the same for fans of Banished – starring Orla Brady, Ewen Bremner and the wonderful MyAnna Buring again! – which was cancelled after one series and on a cliffhanger?
Ripper Street Series 3 begins tonight on BBC1 at 9pm and check out the trailer below:
