Rosie Molloy Gives Up Everything is a rather wordy title where the lead is played by the omnipotent Sheridan Smith (The Railway Children Return).
It’s the latest ITV dram… oh, wait, this one’s on Sky. She’s starred in all the ITV dramas to the point where they’ve run out of air time.
Anyway, it turns out she ruined her brother Joey’s (Lewis Reeves – The Midwich Cuckoos) wedding – where she’ll be ‘best man’ – by getting overly hammered, and then some. But nothing is without consequences, as we see she sleeps around like there’s no tomorrow, she has a load of ridiculous tattoos and think’s she’s all that, she also gets nose bleeds due to her cocaine addiction, and has some tablets of which she doesn’t know the origin because “I got them from a vet”.
However, Rosie will seek help and achieve this from some, all or none of yoga teacher Mel (Stevie Martin, whose advert for Thorntons Classic posh chocs is back on TV and in the cinemas), camp flatmate Nico (Oliver Wellington – Back) and simping colleague Monica (Leah MacRae).
Our lead is not a likeable character, but she’s now trying to better herself by giving up all her vices, and so far, after two episodes, Rosie Molloy Gives Up Everything is okay, but don’t think too hard about it.
And after my mind was drawn to huge age gaps with Jessica Chastain being 20 years old than Tammy Wynette in Rosie Molloy Gives Up Everything, there’s a smaller gap here, as Rosie is 35, while Ms Smith is 41.
Bringing up the rear, and as Rosie’s parents, are Father Ted stars Pauline McLynn (Inside No.9) and Ardal O’Hanlon, and if you recognise the director’s name, David Sant, he played Cartoon Head in Ideal!
Thanks to our friends at Sky for the screener prior to release.
Rosie Molloy Gives Up Everything is not available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but is on Sky Showcase from Wednesday Decvember 7th at 10pm, but all episodes are available from day 1.
