Set Fire to the Stars is a film shot in black-and-white, starring Elijah Wood as John M Brinnin, an aspiring poet in 1950s New York, who has his ordered world shaken when he embarks on a week-long retreat to save his hell raising hero, Dylan Thomas, played by Celyn Jones, who also co-wrote the script with the director, Andy Goddard.
With music from Super Furry Animals’ frontman Gruff Rhys, and a cast including Kelly Reilly (Flight), Steven Mackintosh, Shirley Henderson and the actor Kevin Eldon, I wasn’t persuaded to watch this based on the trailer. It does look a bit of a Marmite film, given the style, in that some people will love it while others will hate it, and that there’s no inbetween.
Set Fire to the Stars is released in the UK on November 7th.
