Special Measures is what’s happened to the school features in this fourth and final drama of the Play For Today series.
With everyone on stress farm, one teacher has quit on the day that they have an Ofsted inspection, also having left a load of student workbooks unmarked, including one where a kid scrawled, “Yer ma took the low offer on The Chase”, which another teacher has to write next to it that it’s “not appropriate“, but when it does happen on ITV, you can hear Twitter explode! 😀
In fact, the whole school is a tinderbox waiting to go off, and you can feel the tension boiling, largely because most of the kids just want to mess around, play on their phones and throw things about.
Have all kids gone completely mad since I was at school?!
Most teachers want to leave, but put-upon Amy Garrison (Jessica Plummer – Missing You) thinks the kids NEED them there. Well, when there’s zero support from the powers that be, you need to think about your own requirements, and I’d be looking around for another position.
Special Measures is a highly engaging episode in this series, and I did enjoy it.
However, while the drama is a must-see, it also reminds me of the advert, “Get into teaching“. Every time I hear that, I think, “No thanks!” 😀
Play For Today can be watched online at My5.
It’s not yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but when it is, it will be listed on the New DVD, Blu-ray, 3D and 4K releases UK page.
