Stitch Head is the titular character voiced by Asa Butterfield (Journey’s End), as one of the many creations put together by mad Professor…. er… Professor. They haven’t created a name for him, but he’s voiced by the irritating Rob Brydon.
Quite frankly, they should’ve got Christopher Lloyd for the role!
Anyhoo, after a travelling circus goes to the castle where he resides, he gets involved with Fulbert Freakfinder (Seth Usdenov) and all the other oddbods along for the ride, while the Prof creatures a monster just known as “Creature” (Joel Fry – Doctor Who: Joy To The World).
Along the way, there was an amusing Health and Safety film about how to SAFELY be a monster, but most of what I remember beyond that is when Strauss’ The Blue Danube pops up, but in sections and in the wrong order…. Plus, the film also features music similar to the theme from The Great Escape, but not exactly that, so they don’t have to pay the rights.
As a film, the first third is okay, but after that… meh.
However, if there’s one reason NOT to watch this, it’s down to the presence of Fern Brady. Back in the days when I tried stand-up – around 2010/2011, after exchanging a couple of seemingly cordial messages online, when I saw her in person, I went to say hello, and she was off from the start. Her opening gambit was a quiet “Get the fuck away from me”. Huh? Was this a joke?
No, she just repeated what she said and looked away. I had not done her any disservice, unless saying hello counts. She’s an unnecessarily nasty piece of work and an absolute freak. Stop employing her.
NOTE: There are no mid- nor post-credit scenes, as such, but you do get various photos of the monsters.
Stitch Head is in cinemas now, but isn’t yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD. However, once announced, it will appear on the New DVD Blu-ray 3D and 4K releases UK list.
However, you can buy the Stitch Head 6-Books Collection out now.
