Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble: Live at the El Mocambois a performance featuring the late guitarist performed at the Toronto venue and isdefinitely one for the jaaazz-club generation…

‘Great’.

His brother Jimmie stated that Stevie “Never played it the same way once, muchless twice”. This performance contains four tracks never released on an album in Vaughan’slifetime before his untimely death in 1990, plus music from Double Trouble’s earlycatalogue, Love Struck Baby, Pride and Joy and Mary Had a Little Lamb, notto mention a couple of Jimi Hendrix tracks, for he was Stevie’s hero, Third Stone fromthe Sun and Voodoo Chile.

‘Nice’.

By the way, Double Trouble are not to be confused with the UK dance outfit from 1989 whohad hits such as Just Keep Rockin’ and Street Tuff with the Rebel MC, who, apparently was “tough like a ninja” and “rough like a razor blade”.

‘Smooooooth’

Standard 4:3 fullscreen (well, it was shot in 1983) and I have no complaints asthe picture is free of artifacts, but the obvious NTSC-PAL conversion leaves itlooking not particularly focused.

Released in Dolby Digital 5.1 sound with PCM Stereo as an alternative option, the sound is very good, but the DD5.1 doesn’t particularly add anything tothe performance.

All the tracks with lyrics are sung in English – although there’s plenty of instrumentalmoments – and you can singalongaStevie onscreen.

And there’s more… :The Timeline describes the career highlights from 1983-1999 for Stevie Ray Vaughanand Double Trouble, from his Texas Flood album in 1983, his tragic death in ahelicopter crash in the early hours of August 27th, 1990, through to remastered albumsin 1999 including a second Greatest Hits release.

The Discography is merely a set of small pictures of each album he’s been involvedwith while still alive and posthumously and the extras are complete with a 22-minuteInterview with Double Trouble, recorded in October last year.

Menu :

Animated with music – Stevie playing the riff from Voodoo Chile.

Overall, it’s a good performance we have here but with few extras it’s a disc thatcan only be recommended to those who are guaranteed to watch this over and over again.
